Novel Separation Technologies for Poultry Processing Liquid Streams

This environmental research project investigates techniques to more selectively capture target impurities from liquid streams in a way that facilitates the recovery of value-added byproducts while still meeting or exceeding water reuse guidelines. Researchers have built and operated a proof-of-concept bench-scale dynamic filtration device to gather preliminary filtration efficiency data. Initial results show that organic solids and proteins from chiller water and marination solutions can be concentrated in filter backwash waters that comprised less than 20% of the overall flow.
