Agricultural Technology Research Program Marks 35th Anniversary

The Georgia Tech Research Institute’s Agricultural Technology Research Program (ATRP) marked its 35th Anniversary with an open house at the Food Processing Technology Building at Georgia Tech. The event, held on March 24, featured exhibits chronicling the program’s 35 years of driving poultry innovation.

Conducted in cooperation with the Georgia Poultry Federation with funding from the Georgia Legislature, ATRP has been ranked as one of the Top 10 programs in the United States serving the meat and poultry industry. The program is particularly noted for its history of developing innovative poultry processing technologies, and successfully taking them from the drawing board to commercial applications.

In addition to the open house, a special highlight of the anniversary celebration was the presentation of a Presidential Citation for Distinguished Service to Abit Massey by Georgia Tech Provost Dr. Gary Schuster. Massey, president emeritus of the Georgia Poultry Federation, was a driving force behind the creation of ATRP and remains a committed supporter of the program. The Citation in part recognized Massey’s championing of university research and outreach and the role it can play in promoting economic development in the state. The Citation was one of only seven presented to date.
