U.S. Poultry & Egg Association 2010 Information Systems Seminar

The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association’s annual Information Systems (IS) Seminar was held in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 19-21. The seminar brought poultry industry information systems experts and vendors together for presentations and discussions. While the attendance was lower than in previous years, the attendee participation was strong.

The planning committee made a point of encouraging participation and interaction at the seminar by emphasizing the open forum discussion and round-table sessions. New to the seminar this year were a series of “lightning talks,” short, succinct 15-minute talks about simple topics of interest. Also, for the first time, vendors were given an opportunity to set up table-top displays to showcase their products during seminar breaks.
The talks covered topics such as virtualization, business intelligence tools, mobile/network security, and a Case Farms company IS profile. After hours, attendees enjoyed the Nashville nightlife, where there are many places to eat and enjoy live music.

The early feedback from the seminar has been very positive, and the planning committee encourages everyone interested in poultry industry information systems technology to take advantage of this resource. The next IS Seminar will be held in July 2011.
